Marrakech is essentially a desert oasis and although the location benefits from a high water table and good water supply from the Atlas Mountains, the climate is sometimes harsh. Between winter, summer, sunny afternoons and starry nights the temperatures can vary enormously. The soil is rich but the water is still rare and precious. Therefore the garden's layout and content was created by selecting plants that resist drought, the cold and consume very little water such as the olive tree, date palms and the prickly pears; tress that symbolise the Marrakech landscape.
Enormous expense has been made on Samanah to ensure that water is used responsibly. After careful environmental study we have been able to use water throughout the community sparingly yet maintain the illusion that it flows abundantly. From the desert "eco" golf course to the choice of plants and swimming pool depths, Samanah has always maintained a strict balance between aesthetics and the environment.
